The word inspirational is being way over used in today’s society. It seems as though anyone who triumphs from life’s adversity is seen as an “inspirational figure”, but have you ever stopped to think what that person has inspired you to do? After witnessing something inspiring a person should want to create a positive change, but most of the time people will throw around the word when someone with different abilities is doing an everyday task such as grocery shopping.

What about someone in a chair picking up dinner for his/her family has inspired you? You didn’t say it to the person standing next to them doing the exact same thing. Fact is, many people use assistive devices; doing mundane tasks such as grocery shopping, driving or folding laundry should not be cause for celebration.

We need to start replacing the word inspiration with motivation. Being the source of motivation for another individual is powerful. It indicates you have done something that has the potential to create a significant change in another person. When an individual is motivated to complete a task they create goals, which forces them to create a plan of action to achieve what they desire. Now, that is cause for celebration.

This is why a program like WheelWOD was created. The driving force of this program and its success are the athletes. Athletes may come from all over globe and have a wide range of different abilities, but everyone involved is motivated to create positive awareness and palpable change.

WheelWOD has given athletes using chairs and their coaches a new platform for fitness and education. Our free, online programming doesn’t just create strong and confident athletes; it creates a larger conversation.
